Readers;

As John Adams stated last week, he will no longer be working on this publication. We wish him the best and have a strong suspicion that we haven’t heard the last of him. I will endeavor to pick up where he left off and provide you with the great content that you have become accustomed to. Please be patient, I may encounter a few bumps along the way. .

Stay safe.

Sands hid fate of Gulf War pilot lost since '91

WASHINGTON (AP) - Navy pilot Capt. Michael "Scott" Speicher was shot down over the Iraq desert on the first night of the Gulf War in 1991 and it was there Bedouins apparently buried him, hidden in the sand from the world's mightiest military all these years.

The Capabilities That Medium-Armored Forces Bring to the Full Spectrum of Operations

Medium-armored forces are central to the U.S. Army's vision of the Future Force, expected to combine the agility of light infantry with the greater lethality and survivability of heavy units through the Future Combat Systems (FCS).[1] FCS is a networked family of systems designed to achieve information superiority on the battlefield. While the U.S. Army develops FCS, it is fielding Stryker brigade combat teams, medium-armored forces that give the current force increased capability.

Security pact gives Iraqi security forces a new swagger

BAGHDAD - Turki Atiah Thamer and Mohrfakh Ali Namdar rolled through Khadamiyah to inspect checkpoints in the well-worn Chevy pickup that is the trademark vehicle of the Iraqi National Police force, wagging an AK-47 out the window while waving traffic to pass.

Army acquires rights to M4

As of July 1, the Army has taken control of the design rights to the M4 carbine from its sole maker, Colt Defense LLC. Translation: With an uncertain budget looming, the service is free to give other gun companies a crack at a carbine contract.

The transition of ownership of the M4 technical data package marks the end of an era and Colt's exclusive status as the only manufacturer of the M4 for the U.S. military for the past 15 years.

Tactical Equipment Evaluation

The Perfect Survival Blade

Yes, I am being exceedingly arrogant. I have spent the past six years now writing equipment reviews and a large number of them have been about knives. Fixed blade knives, folding knives, "survival" knives, combat knives... all kinds of knives. For all that I have yet to find what, in my egotistical mind, is the perfect survival knife; that is, the knife I'd consider optimal if it was the ONLY knife I could have. So, in this review, I thought I'd share my thoughts about the "perfect survival knife" and then tease you with this bit of info: one knife designer may already be working on it.

Recreational Equipment Review

"Resolution" by Robert B. Parker

A couple weeks back I wrote a book review about two Robert B. Parker books: "Appaloosa" and "Brimstone". In that review I said that "Brimstone" was the sequel to "Appaloosa". I received – the day that review was released - an email correcting me. There was a book in between called "Resolution". This week I'm going to share my review of it and give you a taste of another Parker book about one of his more popular characters: Spenser - but as a child of fourteen. Interesting stuff...

FROM THEN TO NOW AND WHY

As my thoughts dwell upon you and these messages that I write, a thought comes to mind... Why are you doing this writing? That thought takes me back to 1962 when I was being trained in the Virginia State Police Basic School. Something took hold inside me there that has been constant since then. That something was to make a difference in this world in the lives of people. The idea actually formulated before I was hired and after I was in the application and testing process. I said it in words to my grandmother, "This grandson is going to amount to something. I am going to make a difference in this world." I knew it inside me and I believed it.

Air Pollution and Running

By Stew Smith - With the long days of summer, there are more daylight hours in which to exercise. Many people focus on running and outdoor activities. These days, though, it may be best to stay indoors and do another type of workout instead of breathing polluted air during strenuous cardio activity.
