Readers;

Another Monday to get the week started. The USTC is filling up as the weather improves. It will be 69 degrees and sunny today, that is a good range day! As we have seen over the years as the weather improves so do the number of personnel that attend training, we expect to have some record numbers this year and believe we will have some weeks where 1000 students will be on property at any given time. I hope we get to see you or unit here soon.

Stay safe.

Secretary Clinton's Mexico Trip: Three Benchmarks for U.S.-Mexican Relations

This week, during her inaugural visit to Mexico, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton faces a tough but critical challenge: laying the early foundations for a solid, working relationship with America's southern neighbor. The secretary can be certain that during her foray into the cauldron of U.S.-Latin American relations, her every word, her every action, and her every policy option will be closely monitored at home and abroad.

Obama: Taliban and al-Qaida must be stopped

WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama on Friday ordered 4,000 more military troops into Afghanistan, vowing to "disrupt, dismantle and defeat" the terrorist al-Qaida network in Afghanistan and neighboring Pakistan. In a war that still has no end in sight, Obama said the fresh infusion of U.S....

Giant Internet worm set to change tactics April 1

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The fast-moving Conficker computer worm, a scourge of the Internet that has infected at least 3 million PCs, is set to spring to life in a new way on Wednesday - April Fools' Day.

That's when many of the poisoned machines will get more aggressive about "phoning home" to the worm's creators over the Internet. When that happens, the bad guys behind the worm will be able to trigger the program to send spam, spread more infections, clog networks with traffic, or try and bring down Web sites.

Technically, this could cause havoc, from massive network outages to the creation of a cyberweapon of mass destruction that attacks government computers. But researchers who have been tracking Conficker say the date will probably come and go quietly.

Is It Time to Rethink U.S. Entry and Exit Processes?
By: C. Richard Neu

Managing the entry and exit of individual travelers at U.S. borders is an important aspect of border and homeland security, particularly given the longstanding difficulties the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the U.S. border protection apparatus has had in meeting legislatively mandated standards for identifying travelers and documenting their arrivals and departures. This paper outlines a number of questions regarding current entry and exit policies and procedures the answers to which may lead to helpful modifications. It also looks at questions surrounding the issue of whether pursuing current objectives for entry and exit processing - especially objectives established by Congress - represents the best use of DHS budgetary and managerial resources.

15 Steps to Better Border Security: Reducing America's Southern Exposure

One of many concerns raised by the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on New York and Washington is the security of U.S. borders. The Homeland Security Act of 2002 established border security as a major mission for the new Department of Homeland Secu¬rity (DHS). The failed congressional attempt at com¬prehensive immigration reform focused renewed attention on the U.S. border with Mexico as well as on the challenges of illegal border crossings and surges in cross-border crime. In response, the Bush Adminis¬tration employed additional Border Patrol agents, deployed new technologies at the border, and erected physical barriers.

Tactical Equipment Evaluation

EOTAC Pants

I sometimes find it humorous that my father-in-law has more jeans in his closet right now than I've probably ever had in his life. He has "dress" jeans, work jeans, casual jeans... and then I have to laugh at myself. I have an even greater number of "tactical" pants in various colors and that I wear for different purposes. Not long ago I was introduced to the tactical pants from EOTAC. I began wear-testing them and realized that it's a good things some design characteristics are relatively universal in the product despite the manufacturer. Otherwise I'd be lost when I reached for something.

Recreational Equipment Review

The MasterCraft X-55

As much as I don't get into the water or ON the water for recreation as I'd like, the simple truth is that I love the beach; I thoroughly enjoy scuba diving; and I find few things as invigorating as piloting a boat across the water, feeling the wind on my face and the bump of the uneven surface. I miss the Bayliner I used to have and recently, more out of curiosity than anything else, started looking around for other possibilities. One option I found was the MasterCraft X-series – the X-55 being the "flag ship" for that line. Here's a bit more about it...
