Tactical Weekly
Readers;
I do not make a habit of passing along chain email content but some of them are so relevant to the time we live in that I cannot help myself. I received the following and many of you may have read them but just in case you haven’t here are some of Thomas Jefferson quotes:
1. "The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. "
2. "It is incumbent on every generation to pay its own debts as it goes. A principle which if acted on would save one-half the wars of the world."
3. "I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government from wasting the labors of the people under the pretense of taking care of them."
4. "My reading of history convinces me that most bad government results from too much government."
5. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms."
6. "The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government."
7. "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."
8. "To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which He disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical."
9. "I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered."
Stay safe.

Drug smugglers using ultra lights to cross border
Smugglers facing strengthened border defenses have turned to an old and risky tactic -using
Officials know of at least three such attempts in recent months - all of which ended badly for the smugglers - but they don't know how many others have been made or whether any have been successful.
The incidents are worrisome to federal officials. They believe more such attempts are happening or will be, though there's no agreement on whether use of the small aluminum tubing aircraft represents a trend or a novelty.
"If the cartels feel they're successful, they'll go with it," said Rick Crocker, deputy special agent in charge with Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Tucson. "If we can shut it down, they'll go with other means."

Inside the Brain of 'Human Terrain'
Most discussion of the Human Terrain System, Army's social science program, usually focuses on the "sharp end," pictured here: the social scientists and anthropologists embedded within combat brigades in Iraq and Afghanistan. But they rarely examine another key function: the HTS Research Reachback Center back in the United States.
These research cells, staffed by military and civilian analysts at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and Oyster Point, Va., are tasked with producing customized, open-source research on key issues of concern to commanders and forward-deployed social science teams in both Iraq and Afghanistan. DANGER ROOM has obtained a number of these unclassified reports, which give some unique insights into how the program works -- and what kind of cultural knowledge the military wants to master.

U.S. Could Use Crisis to Wage 'Financial Warfare'
In defense and intelligence circles, there's growing concern that the global recession has the potential to threaten America's national interests. But a small group of academics and Pentagon policy-makers believe that the U.S. could benefit from the financial havoc. With economies around the world on edge, they argue, a weakened-but-still-gargantuan America has new opportunities to pressure adversaries through the strategic application of market trades and bank transfers. They call their theory "financial warfare."
"Countries are under stress. Their populations are getting more and more agitated. So they're more dependent on our investments," one Pentagon official tells Danger Room. "This kind of financial warfare -- it could be another tool in the toolkit."

Iranian president declares his country a space and nuclear power
TEHRAN, March 13 (RIA Novosti) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Friday that pressure from Western powers trying to keep Iran in economic isolation had in fact spurred the country to become a space and nuclear power.
"Had you not been bad-tempered and blocked the way, the Iranian nation would not have been present in space, and would not have become a nuclear power," Fars news agency quoted Ahmadinejad as saying at the inauguration ceremony of a natural gas deposit in the Bushehr province.

Bill ties climate to national security
WASHINGTON -- The CIA and Pentagon would for the first time be required to assess the national security implications of climate change under proposed legislation intended to elevate global warming to a national defense issue.
The bipartisan proposal, which its sponsors expect to pass the Congress with wide support, calls for the director of national intelligence to conduct the first-ever "national intelligence estimate" on global warming.
The effort would include pinpointing the regions at highest risk of humanitarian suffering and assessing the likelihood of wars erupting over diminishing water and other resources.

Tactical Equipment Evaluation
Glock 19 9mm: 15K Round Report
Way back in the '90s, I guess about 15 years ago now, I purchased a 2nd generation Glock Model 19 9mm. Little did I know at the time it would become one of my favorite carry guns. As a result I've put more than a few rounds through it. As I was performing an inventory the other day and doing some paperwork (because I'm a record keeping freak) I realized I've passed the 15,000 round mark through that pistol. It's time to take a look at how well it's held up and what the next 15,000 rounds may show.

Recreational Equipment Review
"Your Heart Belongs To Me" by Dean Koontz
I was hoping to have a far more exciting recreational review this week for some video cams used in skydiving (and other sports) but some of the necessary research information wasn't available. As a result you are stuck with this book review instead. Well, reading IS recreational (and relaxing usually). Dean Koontz is one of my favorite authors but this is far from being one of his best books in my opinion. Let's discuss the plot and characters a bit and you'll end up seeing why I think he could have done better.

UNDER SEALED ORDERS
(Going but seldom knowing exactly where, like a scrambled fighter plane... a ship warping away from the pier... a patrol car sent only in a general direction... receiving orders only after getting underway...)
Only one thing has to change for us to know happiness in our lives:where we focus our attention. -Greg Anderson-

Proper Lifting Technique and Back Brace Use
Are you asking a lot of your back? Do you bend or lift frequently? Do you have recurring back pain that flares up with use? If so, proper bending and lifting, and wearing a back brace can help you to both prevent back injury and lesson painful flare-ups.
The mechanics of bending and lifting are hard on the back, especially when lifting heavy objects. Various structures in our backs can be injured during the lifting phase. Muscles can go into spasm, ligaments can be strained, discs (the spacers that cushion the back) can be injured, and more.
